First steps

What to do after a loss

Your safety comes first. If anyone is hurt or in danger, call 911 before doing anything else. Once everyone is safe, take reasonable steps to prevent further damage, such as covering a damaged roof or shutting off a leaking water line, and keep receipts for any emergency repairs.

Take photos or video of the damage, write down the names and contact details of anyone involved and any witnesses, and get a police or fire report number when one is filed. Avoid admitting fault or agreeing to pay for damages at the scene. Then send us your claim notification below. Prompt reporting is important, because most policies require that a loss be reported as soon as practical.
