Careers at Societies Insurance
We are always glad to hear from people who want to build a career in insurance – whether you are already licensed, studying for your exam, or looking for a support role while you learn the business.
Becoming a licensed insurance agent
Insurance is a licensed profession, and the requirements are set by each state’s department of insurance – so the specifics depend on where you live. In general, the path looks like this:
- Decide which lines of authority you want to carry – commonly Property & Casualty, Life & Health, or both.
- Complete any pre-licensing education your state requires before you can sit the exam.
- Pass the state licensing exam for each line of authority.
- Submit your license application, which usually includes fingerprinting and a background check.
- Get appointed with carriers – appointments generally come through the agency you work with.
- Keep the license active with continuing education on your state’s renewal schedule.
If you are partway through this process, or have not started at all, that is not a problem. Tell us where you are and we will talk it through with you.
Other roles
Not every position requires a license. We also consider applications for client service, administrative, and marketing support roles – and a number of our agents started in exactly those seats before getting licensed on the job.
If you do not see a specific opening advertised, send your details anyway. We review applications year-round and keep them on file.
